PSEA joins a growing list of labor unions supporting Eugene;
Applauds Eugene’s commitment to students and education professionals
PITTSBURGH, PA – Democrat Eugene DePasquale received the Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA) endorsement for Pennsylvania Attorney General.
PSEA joins a growing list of labor unions supporting Eugene and applauds his commitment to students and education professionals across Pennsylvania.
“Pennsylvania’s education professionals work hard every day to set our kids up to thrive,” said Eugene DePasquale. “Every student has the right to a great education in Pennsylvania. As Attorney General, I’ll fight to ensure that our kids have a real chance to chart their own course no matter where they live.”
During his tenure as Auditor General, Eugene fought for more than 310,000 students in academically challenged schools, exposing the Department of Education for failing to provide the extra support needed to help students succeed in the classroom. Eugene also worked with PSEA to establish Pennsylvania’s first ever School Safety Task Force to ensure that kids can learn in safe settings.
Pennsylvania’s Commonwealth Court ruled in 2023 that the state’s public school funding system is unconstitutional. Governor Josh Shapiro moved to increase basic education funding by nearly $1.1 billion in the FY 2024-25 budget. Eugene has pledged to ensure that the $1.1 billion for basic education outlined in Governor Shapiro’s 2024-2025 budget makes its way to the schools that need it most so that every student, no matter where they live, can receive a quality education.
“Eugene DePasquale is the clear choice for Attorney General, because Eugene will have the backs of our students, educators, and support professionals,” said PSEA President Aaron Chapin. “PSEA was proud to work with Eugene as Auditor General to establish Pennsylvania’s first School Safety Task Force, and we know that he will continue to stand up for strong public schools and make sure that every public school student has the power of a great education.”
The PSEA endorsement complements Eugene’s growing list of endorsements from dozens of elected officials, unions, and leaders across Pennsylvania including the Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers, Reproductive Freedom for All, United Steelworkers, Central PA Building Trades, Philly Neighborhood Networks, Senator John Fetterman, and more.
