Women’s rights group joins growing list of pro-choice organizations backing Eugene;
Recognizes Eugene’s long record of fighting for women
PITTSBURGH, PA – Today, Democrat Eugene DePasquale received the Reproductive Freedom For All (formerly NARAL Pro-Choice America) endorsement for Pennsylvania Attorney General.
The women’s rights group joined a growing list of pro-choice organizations backing Eugene and recognized Eugene’s long record of fighting for women.
“I’ll be ferocious in the fight to protect reproductive freedom,” said Eugene. “This November, extreme MAGA Republicans such as Donald Trump and my opponent Dave Sunday are going to learn that women in Pennsylvania don’t let extremists take away their rights.”
Eugene has pledged not only to defend a woman’s right to make decisions about her own body as Attorney General, but to ensure women fleeing far-right states have access to the care they need in Pennsylvania.
Eugene’s opponent, Republican Dave Sunday, has not ruled out supporting some form of a nationwide abortion ban. Sunday also opened the door to standing by any abortion ban in Pennsylvania passed by the state legislature – no matter how extreme.
As Pennsylvania’s Auditor General, Eugene exposed abuses of taxpayer dollars by so-called “crisis pregnancy centers” that misinformed women. Eugene’s investigation and audit paved the way for Governor Shapiro to cut off funding to Real Alternatives and its anti-choice clinics last year.
"Protecting abortion rights and access amid attacks from GOP extremists is crucial for Pennsylvania, and electing Eugene DePasquale as attorney general is vital to preserving that freedom," said Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju in a release announcing the endorsement. "As a champion of reproductive freedom, DePasquale will be an unwavering defender of all Pennsylvanians’ right to make their own decisions about pregnancy and abortion without political interference. We’re proud to endorse him in this race and ready to mobilize our members to elect him this November."
Reproductive Freedom For All joins a growing number of unions, advocacy organizations, and leaders across the state endorsing Eugene for Attorney General including the Planned Parenthood Pennsylvania PAC, Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers, United Steelworkers, Central PA Building Trades, Philly Neighborhood Networks, Senator John Fetterman, and more.
Pennsylvania’s general election is on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
